Fever Signs and How to Tell if Your Child in real sense has Fever

A child will always be taken in for medical care for the reasons for catching a fever. This comes as no surprise anyway. Fevers are quite common in children and as well frightening to child and parent alike. This article is particularly concerned with giving some questions and answers to the same in order to help parents handle the panic that often sets in when a child is caught in fever.

The first question we may find resourceful for answering is a definition of what fever is in real sense. The child is said to have a fever when their body temperature is up on highs above the normal which is 37 degrees. You can take the body temperature by using a thermometer. Even though fevers are at times helpful in the fact that they can help you fight infections, when they go above the normal, you will find them causing you worries and making the child a lot uncomfortable.

The next question many will ask is how to tell if their child has fever. Depending on age, a child with fever will show certain changes in their body and will feel hot. For the newborns, they will feel a lot fussier and sleepier than is the normal and will refuse to breastfeed or even the bottle. When you are diagnosing the case in the older babies and toddlers, you will note the signs such as feelings of being less energetic and being cranky more than is often with them. The fever has as well an impact on their appetite and they will lose the appetite and they will be especially thirsty. You will as well be able to tell of a fever in your toddler when they particular exhibit signs of listlessness and lack of interest in so much of their fun activities. The other sign of fever in children is extreme sleepiness or trouble getting to sleep. Look out for the signs of fever in your child age above 2 when you see them feeling tired and being unusually whining, when they are asking for drinks than is usual and complain of chills and or pains in their body. Should you see any of these signs in your young one, you will be good taking and noting their body temperature and tell if they could be catching or have caught a fever.

The steps to taking the body temperature will be the next item we will be looking at. There are certainly a number of thermometers available in the drug stores which will be used for the taking of body temperature and as such you will feel confused when you will need to have a choice of these.
